Echoes
3D Game-theory controlled soundscape composition

Echoes is inspired by the resource allocation problem in wireless communication networks and the game theory solution to it, that aims to optimise the emission power and SNR of each antenna in order to reach an equilibrium status. Similarly, Echoes defines the equilibrium positions of sound sources in a 3D space and the effects applied to them as a simulation of the characteristics of the antennas in a wireless network, creating unique soundscapes in every moment and place.
Implemented in MaxMSP and Java, the system defines the initial distribution of the imaginary network antennas based on the light intensity in the performance space. Starting from a non-collaborative game, the characteristics and positions of the sound sources are being modified as part of the search for local equilibria points, until a collaborative optimum position can be found for all of the sounds.

Overview of the designed system that controls the generation of soundscapes' trajectories, in a 3D space with octophonic sound.
Presented in Hangar (18/1/2022), using field recordings from Athens.
